Whales and Dolphins BC is Wild Ocean Whale Society (WOWs)

Beazley looking for names in the Draw box.

Is YOUR name in the box?

Is there another way to Donate rather than using PayPal’s secure site?
1. If you live in Powell River, you can call Susan at 604-485-9138 and we can arrange a drop off or pick up of funds.
2. If you live farther away, or would prefer, you can mail a cheque or money order made payable to Wild Ocean Whale Society to 4037 Lytton Avenue, Powell River, BC V8A 5A6

Please allow sufficient time for your cheque to arrive in time for the draw, if you are wishing to enter it.

Are the funds being used for anything other than direct costs associated with Whales and Dolphins BC or the society?

Will there be an accounting of how the funds raised are being used, and will the accounting be available to anyone wishing to see it?
Yes. Our initial fundraising event outcome is published on the page: Wild Ocean Whale Society (WOWs)

How is the fundraising coming? This was the initial fundraiser – full details are published as noted above.
Donations so far are enough to cover:
— renewal of the web site and domain name
— cost of the second radio power supply
— a second base radio to be purchased on sale
— antenna and mobile mounting bracket
The first radio that was in desperate need of replacing was replaced, thanks to Stephen Mohan of Powell River who donated one. The second radio set up is for a volunteer to monitor radio sightings reports from land when I cannot. This radio will be movable from location to location, but needs to be more powerful than a handheld unit due to the distances being covered.

What funds are still needed to start the non-profit?
Legal fees – or lawyer willing to donate time to set up non-profit society
Application and government filing fees for society

Will there be an ongoing need for funds?
Yes. Costs relating to items on the Wish List (see Support page), future projects and ongoing costs, such as a toll free number for sightings reports, printing for hand outs, etc. will require funds coming in regularly.

Will I be able to receive a proper tax receipt?
When the non-profit society is established and registered; as soon as feasible.

What about the web site call for advertisers?
All funds generated from advertisers or sponsors is also only for Whales and Dolphins BC efforts. Advertising links are available on the Links page.

Checking the bottom of the box.

Maybe your name is at the bottom of the box.

Have you really worked at this, and done all of this without compensation?
Yes. Since 2010 all equipment, web site and other costs associated with Whales and Dolphins BC have come out of my pocket or are personal items used on a strictly volunteer basis.

Is this somehow supporting you financially?
No, not at all. I have to work to cover my costs of living.

If anyone has any other questions, please feel free to ask. As any non-profit society all of these questions and answers are to be available openly for accountability.
Susan MacKay, Whales and Dolphins BC
