Entangled Humpback Whale, Orca, Dolphins, and Other Whale Sightings plus Early Bird Draw Winners
Entangled Humpback Whale in Powell River is a huge newsmaker. The whale was basically tethered to one spot for seventeen or so hours before the disentanglement team from DFO arrived and managed to free it. We have no confirmed sightings of the whale since then. We’ve had a few Humpbacks in the area and only one photo submitted of a whale we don’t believe is the same one from verbal descriptions. We are promised some of the other photos and videos for ID purposes, but have not received them at time of this report. We believe we know who it is, but require the additional information promised to confirm. We’ve posted what we have on hand including a video clip showing the whale underwater.
Numerous Transient Bigg’s Orca have been spotted all over the place, Southern Resident Killer Whales have been around their usual stomping grounds around Puget Sound and we’re starting to hear about a few more Pacific White Sided Dolphins as well as the two main Porpoise species found in our area.
Congratulations to our Early Bird Draw winners: Nancy Fabbro, Sechelt, Lloyd Friesen, Powell River and Raven Hawthorne, North Vancouver! Our next 4 tours, Pacific Coastal flights and accommodation in Campbell River will be drawn on July 26, 2015 at SeaFair, Powell River. These are valuable prizes and still well worth the entry fee of $5. per ticket.
