Humpback, Orca and Dolphins
Report of some Orca passing by Campbell River. ‘KC’ the Humpback Whale (photos below) is still back and forth close by. And hundreds of Pacific White Sided Dolphins in Bute Inlet with a few smaller groups by Savary Island and Powell River.

8 am 3 or 4 Orca were seen Northbound by Quathiaski Cove, by Campbell River. Got report late in the day, after returning from my afternoon tour. Probably Transients.

1:20 pm A Humpback Whale was headed South through Seymour Narrows. At 3:30 pm it was by the Village at the south end of Quadra Island. No real direction.

This is KC (BCY0291). Christie and I think that this scarring is unlikely to be from entanglement. Jack, would be extremely helpful if you could send image …. at full size and resolution so that we can indeed conclude this. We would of course let you know. Very best wishes!

Pacific White Sided Dolphins
May 7:
From 1:30 to 2:30 pm At least 12 Pacific White Sided Dolphins were feeding on small fish in the Deep Hole area of Savary Island.

Around 3:30 pm There were approximately 200 Pacific White Sided Dolphins in Bute Inlet.

11:30 am 100 to 200 Pacific White Sided Dolphins by Fawn Bluffs close to the entrance to Bute Inlet.

8 pm 20 to 30 Pacific White Sided Dolphins were chasing feed in front of Westview, Powell River.You could see the small fish being bunched up by the dolphins with a couple of eagles swooping down to pick off some of the fish close to the surface.

Dolphins travelling in front of Westview ferry terminal (Powell River) around 8:00 am heading north. Passed in front of the Texada ferry moving quite quickly. About 15-20 animals.
