till Dark the same very large Humpback Whale travelled between Albion Point to Myrtle Rocks on the mainland side of Malaspina Strait. It was back and forth showing it’s tail before staying down for a number of minutes resurfacing only about ten feet from where it went down. It was a wonderful show.

July 21:
11:20 am Humpback Between Black Point and Myrtle Point at approx. 11:20 am was close in to mainland.
The humpback reappeared this evening at about 6:00 pm. in the Stager Road area. It was heading up the coast towards Myrtle Rocks. It returned at about 9:00 pm heading down the coast. It would be on the surface for a while and then the tail would come up and the whale would dive for an extended period before appearing again. It was circling around and occasionally breaching.
Liz Kennedy, Powell River
July 21:
12:39 pm Managed to locate the Humpback with hopes of getting a couple photos for identification with a borrowed point and shoot camera. The photos were inconclusive, but could still be ‘Houdini’ BCX022 who was ID’d a couple of days before. She was taking long dives, but not going far. Left her doing circles off Myrtle Rocks around 3 pm.

Hi Susan – We are up near Prince Rupert and just got to watch a lone male killer whale near the Lawyer Islands. He was moving slowly. His dorsal fin was very wavy. We’ll be in Ketchikan tomorrow. I’ll send photos of him and a couple of humpbacks we saw in Fitzgerald Hugh Sound. (photos not received yet – SM)
